This always makes me laugh. The fic itself is also great since it has the actual vids and pics, but the performance of every single person in both casts for the podfics is just A++. And it's pretty short, so even if you're not sure podfic is your thing it's a quick trial.

Everything is normal for about five minutes, until he starts seeing lights that aren't stars, and some kind of low humming that vibrates in his bones, and Grantaire passes out right about the same time the fucking spaceship comes into view above him, flooding the field with light.

Okayokayokay. So the whole series is wonderful and I read this (and much of lady_ragnell 's Les Mis fic) without having consumed the canon. It's a wonderul found-family vibe, a great space setting (spacefarers!), and the character voices are all lovely and distinct. I am pretty sure I've read the whole series at least three times.
Grantaire gets picked up by a starship crew, finds his family, and maybe falls in love a little bit?

(Or: Jummai is a princess without a throne—but she has no intention of leaving to others what is rightfully hers. She needs a wife with an army, and gets one; but her wife seems impervious to her tactical charm, she keeps making mistakes, and her cousin still wants her dead.)

Origfic, as noted. And it has so many of my favorite tropes. Political marriage, complex background politicking, a usurper, the rightful heir taking back their country/land/title. And it's femslash, which just puts it over the top before I'd even read it.
Damkianna's storytelling is so bright and vibrant, I could almost feel the desert they travel through, almost see the faces and settings.

Posted for Yuletide 2012 and it gave me the canon-divergent Dune that puts power in the hands of the women that had been sidelined in the canon. Also OT3.

It's one of the things I love about fandom in general and Yuletide in particular. The very specific niche 'fandoms' that can pop up from literally anything. We see a thing, we like a thing, we make a transformative work about the thing. :)
