Ugh. I'll be happily reading along in a quilt blog full of amusing family anecdotes and decent-to-good quilting tips and then get smacked in the face with some gendered bullshit. Ick.

I know that a lot of the more prominent quilters/crafters (the ones I'll find on a quick search) are the stay-at-home/homeschool/homesteader type. I know that they aren't super about The Queers. But it's the random shit like 'this would be great for a baby girl, but keep it away from big brother!' about a quilt with pink as the primary color that really irritates the shit out of me. Kids like bright colors; the child playing with dolls (and hopefully emulating his father in caring for an nurturing him and his siblings) is no more likely to be gay than his sister sitting on the other side of the tea party. Also? You can make the quilt in whatever colors you or your recipient would like? It's not hard?

I guess I got spoiled by being selective in the knitters I follow and by having a knitting social network like ravlery that made it easier to find people who share an interest but also don't hate queers. I'm sure it's possible to hate the gays and still knit all of Stephen West's patterns, but it seems less likely.
