Little Niblings all have a Christmas present! I just need to check with Eldest, but they're at college and difficult to reach. Well, they're available, but I'm just the weird Auntie who doesn't know how to interact with The Youth. (so i will hit them up on fb messenger later this week.)

The sewing machine arrived safely! I had to do some serious cleaning and hauling off of broken-down boxes to then rearrange space for a working station. Three trips to the trash compactor later (one solely for the sewing machine packaging), I have the machine set up on a slightly elevated, repurposed entertainment center, which means I'm not hunched over while sewing. I got the bobbin wound, the machine threaded, and sewed semi-straight lines! I snarled the thread several times, unfucked it, kept going, and let myself make mistakes.

It's amazing how much better I learn when I'm allowed to fuck up, to not be perfect the first time I try. I know the next several things I sew will be wonky and that's okay. I'm learning my machine, I'm learning new skills, I'm allowed to heck up while I'm learning. Maybe I had to be an adult to learn these things. Teaching myself to knit was possibly the best thing I've done for myself. There was a lot of trial and error, but I learned that I can learn. That I can make mistakes and it's not the end of the world. That even a ruined project taught me things.

I also purchased fabric for a rag quilt for the bestie. Cute flannels, straight lines, hoping for the best. And I know she will like it, even when it's not perfect.
